About Sarah -

Equipped with my own experiences of anxiety and post-natal depression I work to help breakdown the stigma of mental ill health in the workplace. My aim is to normalise the topic of mental health, increase understanding of signs of distress and equip learners with the tools to be mindful of their own wellbeing while providing guidance towards support for themselves and others. I founded The Balance Group in 2018 to help reduce workplace mental health stigma through the delivery of mental health awareness workshops and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses. Having worked as an Associate Instructor on behalf of MHFA England throughout this time, I have worked with a wide variety of companies all with the shared goal to raise awareness of mental ill health and offer initial support to a colleague in distress. I aim to enable learners to feel relaxed, safe and comfortable while discussing potentially challenging topics both online and in person, with the understanding that these may affect them, their colleagues or friends and family alike. In my early career during a period of daily panic attacks I felt my anxiety would ruin my career. I now use that fear as motivation for the work that I do, to help other people see their worth and strength and shift the attitude of mental ill health in the workplace to make it a supportive environment for recovery.
