How To Be Inclusive - Session 2

Being able to truthfully, fairly and respectfully connect to others at work is key to individual and organisational success. To do this, we first must understand our professional selves. And protect our energy and creativity in the process. This is all before the day job really begins.

In Step Up Club’s How To Be Inclusive micro program, with executive career coach & EQ expert Laura Simpson, you will learn these building blocks so that you can form and continually evolve productive relationships at work.

Laura is deeply experienced in guiding others to create and encourage courageous conversations between colleagues, understand the principles of feedback - it’s a continuous, evolving process - and become educated in how to form and maintain personal and professional boundaries. In this 3-part micro series, she will also, crucially, explore and educate you in inclusivity. We all know about the business case for diversity at work, but what about the human case?

Across the course of this series you will learn:

  • The tools to emotional regulation

  • Why we need feedback, and how to create powerful conversations

  • Develop your emotional intelligence to build better understanding of yourself and others

  • The principles of boundaries - how to build and maintain them and the power they hold for you and your teams

  • What it means to be a modern, inclusive leader

Session 1: Thursday 30th March, 8pm

Why EQ is at the heart of inclusive leadership. How can we use EQ to do the vital belonging work that inclusive leadership demands. And why do emotions matter when it comes to DE&I?

Session 2: Thursday 14th September, 8pm

Boundaries – putting a wall up or knocking it down? Hybrid working continues to raise questions around integration, team building and communication. This session explores what boundaries are, how they are actually a point of connection rather than a point of division, how we go about communicating them, and why we need to incorporate the concept of ‘self first’ into people pleasing!

Session 3: Thursday 9th November, 8pm

Feedback is a courageous conversation - This session looks at why we avoid feedback, why we need it, and how to thrive in feedback conversations- whether giving or receiving.

Where: Online

Cost: £50 for all three sessions

Can't make it or missed some sessions? Don't worry, all sessions will be recorded and shared with you afterwards

Laura Simpson is an accredited executive coach and inclusive leadership development facilitator. Laura has a background in talent acquisition, development and DE&I spanning FMCG, finance and law. Moving to Seville at 25 without speaking a word of Spanish, and ending up working for one of the biggest manufacturers in Spain a few years later, Laura realised that the relationship we have with ourselves is fundamental to how we build personal and professional success – and how we communicate with others, even when we don’t speak the same language! Laura coaches to allow individuals to tell their stories, leverage their voice, and understand how to create space for others to do the same, transforming performance, wellbeing, fulfilment and relationships. She is a writer and speaker on emotional literacy and crucial conversations, and is a qualified MHFA and Trustee for Mind in Kensington & Chelsea.
